First ever Hawaii date announced for the end of the tour.
Slash also seems to be talking up his desire to make new GNR album more and more.

Definitely got a YCBM vibe when the guitar kicks in.
It’s just begging for some venomous Axl vocals instead of melancholy Myles.

I don’t get that analogy at all.
There is no evidence of winning yet.

Uh, chances are, if you're buying Chinese goods you're buying garbage.
Not necessarily. Chinese made goods vary from very high quality to the very low and everything in between.
I work in the medical sector and some of the very best instruments on the market in our sector are chinese made. Equally some of the very worst are also chinese made.

It would be awfully lame of the NYT to release it if it wasnt someone of notoriety. Again, if it did come out who wrote it and it turned out to be some ham & egger NYT would face huge backlash and Trumps 'Fake News' and 'Witch Hunt' agenda would take on new life.
Its gotta be someone high up and well known.
I’m thinking it’s a senior aide in the White House. Cabinet secretaries wouldn’t be left alone in the Oval Office or do things like remove letters from his desk. It could be Kelly, but it’d have to be someone with routine access to the president and his office.
This is a big deal for a lot of reasons. But it shouldn’t be celebrated. Usurping the president is treason. It is unconstitutional. If this article came out under Obama, the left would want the author’s head.
If the author really believed this, they’d come forward. Hiding behind anonymity isn’t courage, it’s the exact opposite.
That was my guess too, an aide to someone senior. The person behind figureheads, carrying the notes but sits in on the meetings hearing it all.
Is the content that surprising to anyone? It’s been plain as day Trump is a loose cannon from day one. This just confirms it.

Some, for sure.
NITL, for one. Slash gleefully planted their reconciliation to the media as public knowledge. Very simple. The reporter is told beforehand that Slash and Ax are friends again. What happens;
Slash wrote:"I've heard that you made friends with Axl Rose again. How was that possible after all those years?" a reporter asked him.
"It was probably way overdue, you know, but it's, it's, it's, you know, it's very cool at this point, to...dispell some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long." -Aug 22nd, 2015
That's about 8 months before the Coachella shows. Axl's still a big unknown at that point. The last future plan from him was Stay of Execution, and it was trademarked in June 2014, when the Ashba/BBF -lineup called it a day with another Vegas residency. So, in a year, Axl had gone from SOE to NITL.
I would say that by August, Axl was game to do some shows together. He was likely in on the deal that Slash would 'leak' the news in a throwaway comment or two, before shutting up as Coachella became official.
To a degree, I think NITL was pre-booked and contracted. You don't just come up with a tour that big. However, knowing their history, smart money would be to try it out at Coachella.
Axl probably learned about NITL after Coachella, tho
According to Slash, the first time they spoke was over the phone in March 2015.
Axls version of events is that Coachella put the feelers out on a headlining slot with the reunited band. It seemed a genuine offer so they made contact with Slash’s people.
My guess would be with no guitarists left and CD2 or whatever SOE was dead in the water the big bucks on the table for Coachella looked much more appealing. TB spoke with Slash’s management and a phone call was set up between the two in March whilst Slash was in South America with the Conspirators.
So I’d say Axl was game for a reunion a full 12 months prior to the Troubadour shows. Perhaps even longer as it seems it was he who sought the reconciliation.
I’ve also noticed Slash’s tone regarding new material seems to have warmed over the past few weeks. The most dismissive he seems to be in the interview he gave just prior to Download (RS?). More recent interviews that have been conducted and published post the summer tour he seems a lot more positve about the idea. Hopefully that’s following some sort of conversation or green light from Axl that new music is on the agenda.

Did Finck even want to be rhythm though? I think he’s probably a decent writer and saw himself as lead guitarist but in my opnion lacked the chops for a band the size of GNR, especially given who he was being measured against.
Seems to me the only guy who’s genuinely wanted the rhythm gig in the last 20 years is Fortus.

i don't think gnr's presentation of buckethead did him any favors.
he spent the majority of time just standing motionless on stage, sometimes not even playing a note or chord for extended periods of time.
what was he supposed to do? be the third guy on stage playing the welcome to the jungle riff? gn'r songs aren't that complex; there really wasn't much for bucket to do on must of the tunes. and for some reason, they gave robin got a bunch of solos on that tour. i could only imagine what was going through bucket's head at the time watching robin struggle through patience, sweet child and the november rain. good thing he was wearing a mask.
if they let really let buckethead unleash as the star of the band in '01-'02, i think he could have gotten incredibly over with the fans.
Perhaps but then again Ron, who was his direct replacement, was never accused of standing around doing nothing. I'm sure half the time he was just playing some simple power chords on the old GNR material but at least he looked involved.
I'm not doubting BH's talents in any way I just disagree with the general mantra from BH fans that with the collapse of the 02 tour/album somehow he was robbed of the chance of becoming some sort of mainstream guitar icon. To the vast majority GNR was a joke bordering on tragic in 02, part of that was because of BH not in spite of him.
The notion that if only things had been handled differently there would have been stadiums full of people dancing along to his nunchuck demo and robot dance is just fantasy.

the weird medley thing they did basically summed up the entire '02 fiasco in under 10 minutes. a bunch of random weirdos on stage playing appetite for destruction songs while axl embarrasses himself on multiple levels.
this band really had no identity. you can even tell with the shitty logos and merch they had back then. axl was throwing a bunch of shit at the wall and the only thing that stuck was buckethead, who he proceeded to drive out of the band within a few short years.
Agree on the issue of no identity. It was a bunch of individual quirky musicians playing AFD. Never really felt like a band.
I disagree on the point that Bucket was the only thing that stuck. He epitomised the problem, far too much of a divergence from the original GNR image for most people. A virtuoso player that seemingly never really fitted in to the band environment, on stage or off it. Given time with a prompt release of an album and proper marketing then history may have remembered 02 differently. As it is the public got a snapshot of what the new GNR was about and it wasn’t favourable. A large part of that problem was the guy on the periphery of the stage with a mask and chicken bucket on his head. He was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

I remember a couple of years ago hearing a guy called Vernon Kay (UK tv and radio presenter) talking about GNR around the time the UK reunion shows were announced. He said he it was good the old band was back together blah blah. The interesting bit was he said that years ago he’d been covering the VMA’s and the day before he was in the venue and had watched Axl and new GNR rehearsing because they played the VMA’s the next day. He said it was all very surreal and weird.
Made me laugh how this guy probably has no idea that what he witnessed that day is such a big deal to a select few, who would pay big money just to watch a recording of what he saw.

I listened to the Slash interview, sounds like he’ll be busy well in to next summer with Conspirators with the odd break due to some Alter Bridge stuff.
To his knowledge the autumn dates in Asia are the final leg of the NITL tour.
I think it’s good the question about new material was asked even if it was a kind of Ashba answer. I think that’s the first Slash has said on the subject.
I see two sides to the AC/DC rumour. I thought Axl/DC may be the best chance we had of hearing Axl on new material so the fact Brian is there reduces that. However it would have also taken his focus off GNR for 2-3 years so this way perhaps the odds of new GNR stuff increase.
Either way with slash busy til mid 2019 at least we’re talking 2020 absolute best case for new music.
