Oooh, being such an X-Files fan I can already tell I'm gonna love this thread. Thanks for posting those, James. "Smoking gun" is damn right. Man, that pic sort of creeps me out, to be honest. Don't worry, I'll have something worthwhile to contribute when I'm not so groggy.

By the way, Randall Flagg, you wouldn't happen to be a fan of Howard Chaykin's American Flagg! graphic novels, would you? I sure am. I'm co-writing a script right now called Burning Flagg where I've even named the main character Eddie Flagg. Just, it's an interesting spelling if you didn't take it from the same source.

#1202 Re: The Garden » Is Higher Education A Good Idea? » 908 weeks ago

I can't tell you what I think you should do, but I can tell you what I did. Yes, I did go to college. I went right in after high school and made a point to get my Associate's on the way to my Bachelor's (a lot of people just skip over that one, but it was important for me to have something along the way). However, after three years I took a short break, always with the intention of coming back, and pursued a few different things. After I got that out of my system, I immediately returned that following semester and went straight through the summer to cover lost time. It was rough but I got it all done. I graduated with my major being journalism and my minor being film. I'm currently using both to my advantage, as a freelance writer and as an independent filmmaker. Lately, I've been considering going back at some point, you know because it's really never too late, to get my Master's in education because I think down the road I'd like to teach and pursue these things more as a passion on my own time. It worked out very well for me, and while it was certainly difficult at times, I enjoyed my college experience. Whatever you ultimately decide, cheers to you.

Didn't read through the thread yet, but when I came on here I knew you guys would be talking about it. I'm genuinely saddened by this. I was a fan. He was a phenomenal talent, now lost. RIP Heath. Much respect.

Anyone else think this Jeff Jerome character is the current "toaster"?

Yeah. Episode 3 and still watching. This show is badass. Can't wait for next week. I just hope it's smart enough to switch timeslots when Heroes comes back, because I know I can't watch both.

At least Axl eventually shows up ... or makes enough of a tantrum you could gather when he's not about to. This whole business with Scott is sort of disturbing, not the least of which because of the new STP rumors and the fact he's seemingly fallen off the wagon again.

#1207 Re: The Sunset Strip » Bands/Artists that should have been bigger » 909 weeks ago

Since this has become the grunge-era bands that should have been bigger (I kid ... maybe), I'm gonna list some stuff that's a little more in my vein. Orgy should have been bigger. Orgy blew up with a cover single and then were never able to sustain it. Vapor Transmission is a superior album to Candyass, and Punk Statik Paranoia, being more radio-friendly, would have found much greater success with the proper promotion. I love all three. Shotgun Messiah was a great glam metal band that crossed into industrial and made their best album, Violent New Breed, but throughout their entire career could never come out of the shadows and really make their own name. Tim Skold, taking the reins of the band, was ahead of his game by adopting the industrial flourishes even on Second Coming. Shotgun Messiah is a kick ass band that never made it big enough. Then Skold did a phenomenal solo album that also went nowhere fast. It's now out of print. Kevin McMahon's Prick squandered around for years until releasing a killer studio debut courtesy Trent Reznor's Nothing Records. They got a spot featured on the Showgirls soundtrack, got some airplay for their "Animal" video ... and disappeared. gODHEAD had potential and took all the wrong moves to become something of a Static-X Lite.

Deadsy. 'Nuff said.

Oh, and a band that should have been bigger? And I'm not talking about admiration in retrospect. Hanoi fuckin' Rocks.

Took balls to perform as a band in that state, with a singer who basically bailed on you without telling. Whatever the case, it's trouble. Anybody else watch that hurtin' for the guys standing up their playing?

#1209 Re: Guns N' Roses » Finding Fitting Actors to Play Axl Rose, Dave Grohl » 910 weeks ago

Stephen Dorff as Axl. C'mon, I've been saying this for years. He's getting too old to play younger Axl.

EDIT: Anyone who's dealt with Jared Leto knows what a cocky, oportunistic dick the guy is. He doesn't have the look, the charm, or the class to be Axl. He couldn't kiss Axl's shoes let alone fill them. That's just my opinion.
