#1161 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Voted Classic Rock Magazine Album Of The Year 2007! » 924 weeks ago

I think the fact that Axl & Co end up topping 'Classic Rock' polls will sicken him. He has always maintained that he wanted to move GNR on to a more modern sound yet here he is almost 15 years later still excelling in that genre...

#1162 Re: Guns N' Roses » Yes it's a what will GNR do poll ...humor me LOL » 924 weeks ago

I'm sure Axl would rather press the self destruct button than not reelease this albatross on his own terms. I'm with JVD and James on this one.
We must remember that in our eyes and Axl's CD will always be the perfect album if it remains a fairy story.

#1163 Re: The Sunset Strip » Scott Owns the Right to STP Merchandise » 924 weeks ago

I wouldn't believe this. Merch is negotiated on band terms since each members image and likeness is being expolited to make money.
Why would Scott stop STP merch sales anyway? He's publically stated that he's mended his bridges with the band and that he'd like to work with them again in the future. Merch sales can make a lot of cash so why cut that revenue stream off?
VR are struggling right now, I think Scott will take what he can get money-wise.

#1164 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » What Next?? » 925 weeks ago

VR should get angry, get united, get off the junk or whatever else is lurking, grow a set and get into the studio and give us the album that their chemistry keeps promising.. I am a big fan of the band and I rate both albums highly but seriously, they have done and could do better.

I was hoping Scott would go back to STP but if he's getting in trouble again that will not happen, he burned those guys badly enough already.

Personally, I'd eat one of my eyes to have a few songs with Slash, Duff, Brain, Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell do an album together. I can always dream I suppose..

As an STP and VR fan I throw my hands up in exasperation.
What the fuck does this guy need to fly right? How many chances does any body need?
He almost lost his wife and kids before, he lost his band, a big chunk of money and here he is, back at it AGAIN!!!
Fucking selfish, weak willed fool.

#1166 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash and Duff have discussed doing a GNR reunion show » 925 weeks ago

no, James pointed out how U2 seem to get panned by GNR fans in many forums and I agreed. There is nothing more to that argument.

My point was that both bands were as big as each other in 1992/93. U2 had just undergone a painful re-invention to avoid being a one trick pony which they did very successfully and have maintained their careers ever since.

When GNR came off the road they went into that same state as U2 did but didn't survive as they were. U2 went on to keep their profile very high, selling millions more albums etc. My point was that I wish GNR had survived and that Axl & Co. would have fulfilled their legacy like U2 did.

This had nothing to do with liking U2 or not, I'm just comparing where each band went since level pegging each other from a success point of view in 1993.

#1168 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Australian Tour Dates Axed » 925 weeks ago

hey Buzz,
I'm sad to say I agree. I feel terrible that I just don't feel it like I did for either band the way I did about the original GNR.
I had about ten bands I LOVED in the early nineties; I've had very little since about 1998 to get excited about. I can't believe how good we had it once..

#1169 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash and Duff have discussed doing a GNR reunion show » 925 weeks ago

Thanks James. You're right, I have noticed savage scorn for U2 on GNR boards which is weird since Axl proclaimed his love of U2's music and even covered 'One' at the the GNR gig in Slane, Ireland in 1992 (the crowd went ballistic).
Maybe it is a kind of bitter reaction to the current GNR situation. I really thought that GNR and U2 would have matched each other for achievements.
When you think about it both bands had similar issues with the fear of becoming stadium dionsaurs. The main difference is that U2 underwent a hellish two years to deliver their finest album Actung Baby which was a total change in sound and image but a tour de force none the less. Poor old Axl and his band tried the same thing and here we are 14 years on...

#1170 Re: Guns N' Roses » Check out this new rumor » 925 weeks ago

Guys,
I'd say the story is BS but the issue she is alluding to could very well be a good guess as to what the issue is here. A few people have insinuated that the hold up is due to 'business issues'.
Re-launching GNR as they are will be a very expensive business. There are new faces, a new direction, much older band members than the industry currently accepts etc.

I bet Axl wants an amazing video ($2-4 million ), big radio promotion (about $100K a week for a decent world wide campaign of adds), a promotional tour for the band to visit radio stations etc (15 people minimum on the road for 3 months world wide promoting CD will be about $10K a day.
Free merch to give away ($250K)... The list goes on..

Maybe the record company got their money back from GH and the nostalgia tours and they are now trying to rein Axl into facing the realities of today's market and what record labels are willing to pony up.

I don't think Miss Elderly First Time Poster has any cred but she may not be a bad guesser..
