#1141 Re: Guns N' Roses » Del James comments on Robins status » 906 weeks ago

Does it seem odd to anyone that Robin weathers years of shit and now suddenly seems to be acting out with things apparently so near conclusion? I  say that because I note frustration in Del's nmail to Dave which seems to indicate that Robin can be a law unto himself.

What has changed lately that may have caused this sudden move to NIN with no apparent conversation with Axl Inc?
- New Management:
Maybe they are pushing to re-unite the old band? They have a reputation for rescuing bands that are falling apart.

- Buckethead is back
Axl was nice about him in his Dr. Pepper release and mentioned he would be on the album. Again, was I imagining things that Bucket and Robin didn't always see eye to eye?

- Axl is back talking to the old band
With VR on hold who knows what may be going on behind the scenes, especially with Izzy welcome in both camps.

- Robin is just killing time.
Maybe he got word that CD is a while off yet and decided to spend the summer getting a fat check from NIN?? No biggie.

Here is a question for you all to ponder. If the label told Axl that if he reunited the old line up and released CD as a solo album to get that $18M weight off of him do you think there is any possibility he would go for that ???

maybe Bucket is back and Robin left in protest?? They didn't get on all that well.

Guys,
While I remain sad about the whole thing it could be viewed right now as likely to go either way.

I personally don't think Matt or Duff would go with Baz, they have already stated from the start that they wanted a more modern sound from the band than jsut '80's rock and Baz ain't the man for that, he's an 80's star and makes a living off of that. Personality-wise he's frankly a bit of a goof, if he had brains he'd be dangerous. I personally will be out of VR land if they bring him in; he's bad mouthed VR to hang with Axl, his old band mates in Skid Row hate him, forums are full of stories of his asshole behaviour in front of fans etc. It'll be another low selling album and a train wreck tour and then the end.

Chris Robinson could be an interesting choice as I think he would compliment the songs that Izzy had a hand in writing when he jammed with VR. Scott hated them and wouldn't contribute -they since have been shelved  - for now. It was pretty obvious that Scott was pushing VR towards an STP direction with songs like 'Come on Come In' etc. However, their back catalogue bar maybe 5 tunes would have to be abandoned if Chris came in - they just won't work.

I'd love to see them work with Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, Chris Cornell, Ian Ashbury I'd be curious to see what they could do with Mike Patton, Mark Lanegan and Brandon Boyd

I'd love to see them write an album with Dave Grohl, three guitars would be no bad thing (as we already know from nu-GNR) - zero possibility unless Dave has no FF work for a couple of years.

I'd be interested in the dynamic between VR and Chris Cornell - never going to happen either, he's supposed to be as difficult as Weiland in his own way too.

I am a little lost as to who else to choose - Mike Patton has crawled off up his own ass and many of the other vocalists with the pipes I respect are too old or too established to fit..

#1145 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Scott says VR is finished after this tour on stage in Glasgow?! :( » 909 weeks ago

Scott could never handle the enduring legacy that Duff, Slash and Matt carry with them. In the Dublin show he looked really pissed at the crowd's esctatic reaction to GNR tunes.
What an arrogant fuck, he should acknowledge the achievements of his band mates and move on.

No autographs, no meet-and-greets, no banter with his band mates, no apparent gratitude for Duff getting him a way to get off heroin and giving him a second shot - what a fucking diva.

The STP reunion will doubtless be helped by the existance of VR.
Good luck to the deLeo brothers controlling this guy, he seems to continually shit on those that have helped him before.

At this rate, Scott may well find himself alone in life. The guy needs to find the humility switch and fucking flick it!!

maybe they should record their albums live like AC/DC and release them, it seems to 'explain' the songs a lot better..

Thanks Rus. It was pure uncynical energy, not the lasy posturings of bored millionaires, they really seemed to thrive on the cheers and drive each song so very hard for middle aged men.

My fiancee is not a fan and I'd count as an all 'round dolly bird, into Amy Winehouse etc but she was buzzed by the whole thing. She'd never seen a band play good rock n roll and the energy was a great surprise to her.

I have a feeling many will give Libertad a shot after  last night. They play a second night tonight, hopefully people will get the night we did.

Guys,
I went to the Ambassador last night to catch my first VR gig.
Man what a show. It's a small venue about 1200 max, and old so looked great in the stage light. The band strode on about 9:45pm and took off with 'Let it Roll' never one of my favouriyes but tonight the band were on fire and Libertad tunes really took off more so than the record allows them.

It's amazing how youtube etc doesn't really capture how explosive and tight the band are. Scott was amazing, he kicked major ass. He sang well and moved with frantic energy around the stage, he was drenched in sweat and sang perfectly.  He is a sulky fucker though, he sang 'Patience' in the shadows behind the band leaving Duff and Slash out front alone - the symbolism was not lost on me and many others. He seemed bemused by the general pandemonium and delirium that greets the GNR songs despite the fact that the old STP numbers went down a storm and the crowd sang along.
I used to hate Matt's drumming but man alive nowadays he OWNS the kit. He is so confident on that drum riser; he holds the whole thing together so well.
Duff had family at the gig and called them out; he kept smiling at them and us at the front. He looks amazing for a man in his forties, his arms are rock solid and he comes across as a very serene thoughtful kind of bloke.

Slash played a blinder, no sloppiness. Again, like the others he looks great:  slim, fit, happy. He  and Scott smoked throughout the gig - now illegal in Ireland. Nice to see a bit of rebellion.
Dave was excellent and played his ass off, he seems to get ignored by all members all of the time - I felt sorry for him, he seems very nice and extremely proficient.
Scott didn't speak to any of the band members once. Duff gave him a couple of looks that I would describe as strained. Man they can play but it's obvious things could be better between them.

Catch this band before they seperate, I think they'd wipe the floor with Axl's over-thought colossus called GNR and pretty much everyone else out there/

It still amazes me that we are all still here - 6 years since the light came into the tunnel...just another shit train I guess!!

#1150 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Snoop Dogg and Slash jam at LA charity event » 915 weeks ago

I see your point Aussie but what else is Slash to do? His current band is on haitus and his old band is gone.. The man likes to play, the crowd love to listen so alls well that ends well.

But I do agree that some of the things he's showed up for are a little lame. Still if I was getting large lump sums to hang out with Bill gates for a few hours..what the fuck..I'd be there!
