It's true Mick. What else can the guy do? Take Jimmy Page for example, the man has languished in the shadows since Led Zep ended and despite his legenday status has never found a way forward without his old band.
At least Slash had a No. 1 album, hit singles and a grammy with his second band. That's rare for a blues RNR guitar guy that is not the frontman.

The man is working to stay current and is out there doing it for himself. I mean 20 years after AFD, he was chosen to play 'Hey Joe' to honor Jimi at the RNR Hall of Fame. That's a big deal.

I didn't realise that this forum had so many high achievers who can honestly regard his obvious talent, platinum second band, grammy and best selling book a 'joke'.

Anyay, nobody seems to be willing to answer my question. When all information regarding the shit that went down with GNR is compiled, I just cannot see where Slash went inhumanely beyond all mercy in his pursuit of Axl when his actions are compared to the others. So why the bitterness?

As i said I am am massive fan of both men, but Slash takes the high ground by admitting his bitterness, depression and anger with Axl and his end in GNR  but that he gotten past that and has moved on.

He doesn't seem jealous or bitter about people out touring the world in a band he helped define, playing songs he helped write with guitar lines that will remain immortal.

I just wish Axl, an articulate deep thinking and fantastically talented man, would do more than pop out of the shadows to piss on almost every entity he has had to interact with. And quit the Slash thing already. He's capable  of so much more.

Slash's success may not fit every puritants bill but a success he is and still widely regarded as a guitar legend.
I don't see what is more of a bigger joke here, Slash making the best use of the resources he has versus Axl squandering all of his.

intercourse - you point out all of the things that slash did to axl and compare their similarities to the things izzy, matt, and duff have done. you then combine that with the fact that axl said he he would reunite with all of them except slash and some how come up with an opinion that axl has unfairly singled out slash and doesn't want him accepting due credit for past work because he is no longer in gnr???

hey it's no worse or better than any other theory out there. Despite two long and rambling responses to fan and journo questions Axl still did not exactly define what the problem was that set Slash apart from the rest. I'm just pointing out that Duff, Izzy and Matt left the band, slated and sued Axl yet they seem to get off lighter.. I mean what more could Slash have done than the others bar physically hurt the guy? So the driver must be something else...

we know about 1 percent of what went on behind the scenes when the original gnr walked the earth

oh I don't know.. there have been books and interviews galore to choose from, all with a similar theme. Even if you take Slash & Matt out of this argument as they seem to incite rage in the die hard Axl worshippers; look at what Izzy, Duff & Niven said..then compare it to what Axl said. There's a whole lot of pointed statements on one side that have a recurring theme and a whole lot of quasi-legal waffle on the other that says not much of anything.

so unlikely theories, like jealousy or discontent (with slash's success or due credit)  puts an unsavory and baseless label on axl's head and seems kinda irresponsible to me.

I think these theories seem unlikely to you. As I have pointed out I am trying to retrospectively  differentiate what Slash did from the rest that is so bad and since I cannot and the interviews I have read do not, I can only assume this is a battle of hearts and minds here and nothing more and Axl is not happy that Slash is winning.

I don't see what's 'irresponsible' about that. It's just my take on things as I see them.

Got any better ideas? I thought that's what a forum is for...?:peace:

I have to say I fucking hate the start of Street of Dreams , that piano line is trite and the first line is just awful, but once it gets moving I am happy out.

I'd be thinking TWAT if I was Axl.

"There are acts that, once committed between individuals, they are what they are. To add insult to injury almost day after day, lapsing into year after year, for more than a decade, is a nightmare. Anyone putting his own personal entertainment above everything else is sickening."

So what has Slash done that is so bad?
Sued Axl?
So did Duff and Gilby and Steven - Axl has said he'd work with Duff and he spoke for hours to Gilby at the Staffuckers gig. Stevn is just to far off Axl's radar now but he is not the recipient of such venom.

Trashed Axl's name?
I think that interview with Izzy said more harsh stuff about Axl than Slash has ever said in 15 years. Slash was more than fair to Axl in his book. Slash admitted being very bitter about it all for years. Let's not forget who brought in the 'other guy' to play guitar over Slash's rhythm parts in Sympathy.
Matt has said some pretty nasty stuff and yet Axl spoke to Matt at length in NY in 2006.

Slash gets all the venom.
The more I see this saga roll the more convinced I am that Axl believes that Slash has no right to be out there talking about his work on AFD etc because he is not in GNR and Axl owns the band now. And before anybody gets on their horse about Slash continually talking about GNR, he was always asked and as a former member, he had the right to answer. Without Axl ever been out there, journalists had no other opportunity to try to find out what was going on. Plus, its a great fuckin' story - why not ask!!

I think Slash's continued success and respected position in modern music and media galls Axl and has played havoc with his comfort zone as he tried to bring the nuGNR crew forward.
I often wonder if Slash went the way of Izzy and became very low key would he have been spared the undiluted and unrelenting venom that Axl has directed at him.

It all seems very out of perspective. As a believer that neither man will be better without the influence of the other I am saddened that Axl remains so bitter and paranoid despite years of therapy, new age healing and even a repaired relationship with Izzy, who I had hoped would build the bridge.

I am also saddened that Axl isn't comfortable with the idea of working with more than one of the guys at a time. To me that shows that despite the awfulness that is the state of GNR as a band today, Axl is happier because ultimately he is unchallenged in his role as leader of GNR. He has 'the power rewards of my vision' as he once called it.

What Axl probably doesn't even realise is that as a singer/songwriter he was probably better at his craft when those challengers were there.

some thoughts on this interview:
- he never countered Niven's claims
- he's boring us all to death with his Slash fixation
- GNR will never be what the fans want it to be again (old or new line up)
- I remain a massive fan of the man but I'm bored as fuck with his  incessant  winging.
- I still think he cannot believe fully in GNR without Slash and I think he projects his hatred of himself onto Slash for feeling that way.

#1119 Re: Guns N' Roses » Former GN'R Manager Alan Niven Counters Axl's Claims » 864 weeks ago

Back to Niven's interview..

It just adds another man to the same side of the see-saw that Duff, Slash, Matt, Zutaut and even Izzy are on. I think he summed it all up so well when he said that 'he wore us all out'.
I am worn out with Axl; I am lumbered with this massive adoration of his voice and his work with the original band but utterly tired out of his ongoing messiah/martyr complex.

Niven knew as manager that without Axl the band was a non-runner, hence the support of him. His job was to keep the money rolling in.

I think he’s been silent for so  long because good music managers that are respected in the business keep their mouths shut. All the ego, drugs, sex, money etc is kept out of the public view and under wraps despite the manager witnessing the worst excesses of their client.

He’s probably had enough of seeing his name pissed upon by Axl when he was instrumental in the guy reaching the pinnacle of his game. I’m sure he’s no angel but Izzy hiring him says to me that he had honour and could be trusted to do his job.

Next will be Robin and the others once Axl confirms he’s done with them. Hell, he probably blames them for CD doing badly...
