#1071 Re: Guns N' Roses » In Retrospect-the best review? » 856 weeks ago

wow...despite the arguments here lately we all have quite similar feelings about the album. I cannot take too much of it in one go but I have put it on every few weeks and been delighted with parts of it. Axl's talent is undeniable.

I was always surprised and even disappointed that for all the talk about this album and the fall out with the old band (especially Slash) being necessary to make it, I think the only song they wouldn’t sound right on is Shackler. The rest ain’t at all far from the old ground despite the years of work put in to move GNR on musically.

I reckon the leaks killed a lot of the anticipation plus with the crying wolf for over 9 years, it all just got old. People just got bored of Axl's carry on and moved on.

Axl needs Paul McGuinness to manage him. If GNR were 10% as organised as U2, who knows what could have been achieved with CD.

As you say so well Loaded he squandered his comeback. His hill back to the top has now become a vertical sheet of glass unless he pulls the old band together which does not look like happening...unless maybe he goes broke (which is always a possibility in these troubled times).

agreed. excellent mail. despite my frustrations with current bahaviours, it's never boring!!

but guys don't you know this is just Slash being a 'media whore'!!!

Fuck 'em all Slash, just keep bringing it, I agree Monkey..I think he excels when placed outside his standard set up.
I watched him play Jelaous Guy with Ron Wood and his solo had grown men getting tears in their eyes, beautiful..

I think it's absolutely hilarious,..... to coin Tommy's career as ZERO before GN'R (late 90's), when in fact GNR's former members were about 5 years off the freakin' radar too.

None of the GNR guys were working in telesales, Tommy was. What isn't zero about that from a musical perspective when compared to Izzy, Duff and Slash? I've worked in telesales, I'm not taking the piss here but Alice Cooper, Camp Freddy and Ron Wood were not calling Tommy up to come out and play. Tommy's profile was essentially ZERO. Fact.

Axl was the only guy even getting the occasional article, and that's only because the brand name Guns N' Roses still meant 'music headlines' back then.

I think you'll find that the rest of the old band usually got mentioned in those articles too along with taunts about album delays and massive costs etc...

Regarding my position as a 'Slashite' or whatever that is 2
I am a fan of the old line up including Axl. I remain a fan of each guy today including Axl.

I think if you look at the careers of Bucket, Robin and Freese they were a much bigger deal than bar musicians when they joined GNR.

Regarding Finck, he left GNR before remember? I wouldn't count him as a great example.

Tommy was very much in the hard shoulder of the business when he got into GNR. I'm not knocking him, he's a great guy with a great history but he was down on his luck and the business had finished with him back then, it's just the way it was.

fair deuce Atari, you stand your ground I'll give you that.
Regardless, you're a tiny monority, good luck with that.

Atari,
Tommy Stinson was working in telesales when Axl picked him up. His profile was ZERO, he was no longer a successful musician.
Izzy, Slash, Duff, Bucket, Robin, Freese all were working musicians with careers in the business. Tommy had nothing.
