The circus factor of the 2002 band could have worked. It clearly separated old from new. In contrast the 2012 band just looked like a pale version of the old band.

He spent years building GNR back up from scratch and put a lot of soul and heart into it then he just gets cock blocked by the suits at Interscope. Must have been embarrassing.

Here's the problem with 2001-2....

It only works if there's an album in stores. Anything less dooms it to the failure it became.

He had the media kissing his ass after Vegas/Rio. This is when the label should've stood up and taken notice...the world wants him back. Just release the album he handed you...warts and all. It'll all sort itself out anyways.

Best case scenario 2001-2...

It sells anywhere from 2 to 4 million copies depending on the quality of singles and if one can hit the mainstream. The tour lasts until 2003-4. The follow up likely released around that timeframe.

This allows for Axls initial dream scenario mentioned onstage at the China show...album, tour, and then album.

Worst case scenario 2001-2

Their fears are correct, it's not up to snuff, public rejects it and album is DOA. The tour implodes just like it would in 2002...maybe even quicker. With CD now out of the way, there's simply NOTHING for him and his minions to hang over the heads of fans or the label. Any attempt to hype a followup would only bring laughter. One by one the band members bail leaving Axl by himself. This probably leads to a reunion in 2004-5...maybe even sooner which would mean Velvet Revolver never takes off.

It is still absolutely mind boggling how they had the nerve to not only appear but be the main act at the VMAs without an album or at least a song in stores. This was still the era where live performances are promoting albums/singles. Why were they even there...and why waste the mainstream debut of new GNR on THIS?

Post UYI release, did management ever make a wise decision?!?

I love how 3 of their "new" songs have already been thrown into the list of alternates.

Gotta keep those covers though...can't risk dying from boredom onstage.

Pretty cool for this and Perfect Crime to finally get out but IMO it's a bit too late for this stuff. Why couldn't this have made it out during the periods there were a lot of people salivating for it?

Other than people going to see these guys perform some hits, interest is at an all time low. Fan sites barely hanging on.

Simply put....all this shit was hoarded for too long.

I listened to Move to the City and Nightrain.

Too bad the Nuggets couldn't capitalize on the upset.

The Bulls-Knicks series was great...other than the fact the Bulls lost.

Knicks -Rockets finals was disappointing. Starks massively choking in that final game was unbelievable.

Decided to pause my rewatch of 95 to check out the current finals underway. DAMN....the game has really changed. It's like arcade basketball.... constant 3 pointers and the refs never call traveling, double dribble, or palming.

Hell...even centers play like point guards now! What happened?

This is why you shouldn't go 20 years not watching sports you enjoy.

Yeah, the NBA is insane now. I’m a Celtics fan and all they do is bomb 50 threes a game. If they make them they win by a bunch. If they miss them they lose and are a real tough frustrating watch. That’s how the game is played now though with analytics telling you shooting 3s is more efficient than 2s even if the % isn’t as high.

Yeah....Jordan talked about this eons ago. He was a damn good 3 point shooter... especially in clutch time...but he refused to go deeper into the use of 3s because he knew it would cause the rest of his game to suffer.

The current NBA pretty much proves him right.

If that's really how Jordan felt, he must have felt damn lucky to have Paxson, Armstrong, and Kerr as his 3 point weapons during the 2 3peats.

I resumed watching the 95 playoffs. With hindsight I feel bad for this Orlando team. Easily whipped the Celtics in the first round. They're young, hungry, and have no idea this is their one shot at a ring.

Jordan should've come back one or two months earlier than he did. The team is still rusty and awkward in the playoffs. What an ego he has believing he could come in at the last second before the playoffs and win another ring. He never would've allowed it but I think he would've been more effective in this year's playoffs coming off the bench as a stunt/specialty player for 15/20 minutes a game...maybe increase his minutes deeper into the playoffs.

I'm about to watch the Suns-Rockets series. Havent watched this since 95. It amazes me how the Suns did not capitalize on Jordans absence which left everything wide open.

Instead the Rockets go back to back. Was shocking then and still is.

Another team that should've jumped at the opportunity with Jordan gone is the Pacers. At least they got close.

Hornets too. They suffered from a lot of bad luck and timing.

#6 Re: Guns N' Roses » Perfect Crime Use Your Illusion Tour Documentary Promo » 7 weeks ago

Massively underwhelming.

Having said that....

It's the post-Izzy UYI tour. leading into TSI which really lowers my interest. The main interest I've had in this project for decades was the summer 91 tour and the insanity of the UYI release. This project clearly had nothing to do with that. Once again....fan assumptions made this into a bigger deal than it really was. I guess they went into those record stores at midnight Sept 17th to witness the hysteria without cameras.

This documentary was clearly meant to be released as a tie in to TSI....that has never been communicated to fans before. Slash's desire to immediately go back out on tour now makes a bit more sense...he knew this was going to be in theaters/video stores that coming summer.

After watching this footage...only thing I'm interested in is the rough takes from the TSI sessions....they obviously have them.

As far as the personal interviews...these guys weren't very interesting if I'm being honest and these are cherry picked conversations. Was wacky seeing Slash and Dizzy hanging out together.

So like everything else....this was hoarded for decades.

Fantastic...

Holy shit...I forgot this happened that season! In my memory, it happened the following season when Jordan came back right before the playoffs.

I'm gonna watch that series first.

Orlando needed Horace Grant a year earlier than they got him. If memory serves me correctly...this is still that period of Shaq's career where he couldn't make a free throw to save his life and all you had to do to fluster him was to keep fouling him.

Hardaway hadn't found his groove yet.

That whole organization (including the players) were too impatient....it's like they didn't realize they had the building blocks of a dynasty in place. Essentially locked in. Just needed to wait Jordan/Pippen out for their 3peat and just be happy with playoff appearances until then.

I hate Shaq but it was all over the moment they let him go. Such a colossal fuck up.

Crazy how their peak wound up being that 95 choke job against the Rockets.

July release

They recorded it in a month. Obviously this is probably the last album...at least while they are alive.

I'm really hoping for one more amazing Keith track... although I doubt he can top Tell Me Straight.

Yeah it's gonna be his kid. They need to just admit it instead of letting it dragged out.

Started the 93-94 NBA season. It's too long....gonna skip to the playoffs. While I do remember who went to the finals (Rockets vs Knicks) I'm looking forward to seeing how it led to that.

The 93-94 season is fascinating because it's the first post-Jordan year of the NBA. No one knew what would happen...and everything was completely wide open. I'm really anticipating how in the hell the Phoenix Suns shit the bed. With Jordan out of the way and Pippen having difficulties as the leader of the Bulls, the Suns had no excuses for not winning it all. Same with the Sonics.

Neither team gets to the finals.

Also looking forward to how the Eastern conference played out. The Hornets and Nets were teams on the rise...what happened? Cleveland too.

This is why the Bulls had a 2nd 3peat when Jordan came back. If you can't step up in his absence....the fuck you gonna do when he's back?

Pretty solid set list though with the two new songs, Dead Horse, DOTF, etc. I feel like at least those two haven’t been staples at most shows.

Welcome to the Jungle
Mr. Brownstone
Bad Obsession
Live and Let Die
(Wings cover)
Slither
(Velvet Revolver cover)
Chinese Democracy
Pretty Tied Up
It's So Easy
Yesterdays
Double Talkin' Jive
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
(Black Sabbath cover)
Nothin'
(Live debut)
Dead Horse
Civil War
(Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" outro)
Perhaps
Atlas
(Live debut)
Knockin' on Heaven's Door
(Bob Dylan cover) (with Only Women Bleed Intro, followed by band introductions)
Slash Guitar Solo
Sweet Child o' Mine
November Rain
Patience
New Rose
(The Damned cover) (Duff on vocals)
Down on the Farm
(UK Subs cover)
Don't Cry
Nightrain
Paradise City

Yikes.... it's exhausting just looking at the list.

It's just too much. This isn't 1991.

It'd be fun to speculatively put together a setlist that's 1) about an hour shorter and 2) plays to Axl's strengths. Lots of that lower-register stuff and just the absolute essentials (SCOM, Paradise City etc) from the higher register material.

At this late stage of the game, this is all you need....

The main hits, a few smaller hits, a few deep cuts, that you can rotate nightly, New Rose to give Axl a breather, one 'new' song for hardcores, and that's a wrap.

Nothing from CD is needed, only thing from TSI that should be performed are Duff songs, only need 1 or 2 UYI deep cuts, , 2-3 deep cuts from AFD, nothing from Lies but Patience. Ditch all the various covers because they're beyond necessary and only exist to alleviate their own boredom.

The whole thing is beyond stale....waaaay beyond stale. I really don't know how much longer it can go on. I guess they'll keep it going until literally no one is buying tickets.

One more thing...

Atlas is terrible. It's one of those songs that just isn't going to translate into a live setting. Ditch it.
