Not that DJ is a 'big name' but before he was in GN'R he had done writing for Motley, wouldn't surprise me if he was shopping around songs to them before he joined. I did hear a rumour years ago that Joe leste from Bang Tango and Beautiful Creatures (Ashbas old band) may have sent songs to them but never heard anymore about it. 'Big names' however makes me think maybe Desmond Child

Pitman seems to be referring to the 1998-2001 period (when the bulk of the material was written).

The only possibility that comes to mind (aside from Desmond Child type songwriters) is that maybe he was referring to Izzy's songs (the ones from the 90s that Axl asked and got back around 2000). But then why would Pitman avoid mentioning Izzy and be so secretive about it?

My money would be on Marti Frederiksen, Glen Ballard and Diane Warren. They wrote for Aerosmith on Nine Lives and Just Push Play which line up time wise with work on CD. Warren wrote that awful I Don't Want to Miss a Thing in 1998. If the Label or somebody was giving them lists of writers names then those would have been on it I think as they had pretty big success writing for 'classic rock' acts in an era that was mostly filled with Nu Metal/ New Punk stuff. In that sense from a labels perspective they would be the logical choice/suggestion. & if  it was the song writers reaching out and not the label then GN'R seems the logical choice after working with Aerosmith.

If it was Izzy I think Pitman would say so.

A long shot guess would be Butch Walker who wrote for Rivers Cuomo and Weezer in that era, I only mention it as around 2003 there were rumours Axl was meant to guest on a Weezer song, which people put down to a silly rumour and is largely forgotten now.

Weezer have supported GN'R, but they have never recorded together

Song written by Pete Scaturro and Carroll. Vocals recorded by Axl in the first "remake-sessions" in 2002/2003. Discarded at the 2004 major overhaul.

That could be an educated guess any of us could have made from listening to the song

@m.b4402 Yes. This song was about the french drummer and actor François-Alexandre Galepides alias Moustache, died in 1987. The chorus has samples from 'Two For The Road', a 70's film (Galepides played a role on it).

Brain and the band at the time loved sampling old movies in songs (from the 70's) they were working on & intros both in studio and live (The joint shows).. It seems like something somebody might claim if they wanted fans of that era to believe them.

Oh well, that would make sense. I noticed Brain said to me that Seven has Ben Hur in it, so it would fit in. We'll maybe never know

Seems to claim it’s about some French drummer that died in 1987.

Anyone know if this is true and or how tf would someone know this
Much?  Also I’m sure there were plenty of remake sessions but a discarded overhaul of 2004 that’s news to me.

The was a French drummer called Moustache who died in 1987.

He starred in the 1970s version of Zorro, and the 70s movie is seen by some as the definitive version of Zorro

And, Zorro was regarded as bringing the bandana look into fashion for people that wore them

Whether any of it is true I don't know and the chance of Axl knowing about a French jazz drummer and occasional actor is potentially quite slim, but who knows

Whatever it is, it works for Axl. He's still alive and he seems to trust them. And he seems happy.

And they've got Universal and Livenation around them to guide them through the mechanics of  today's musical landscape.

Everyone is flawed at the end of the day,

I think is clear to assume Monsters is Soul Monster for all the information above (Axl's Bridge description, Beltrami comments & for the fact on the leaked 2008 list, Soul Monster & Monstrosity appear as different songs.

Nothin' & Down by the Ocean same song?
It can be, don't know why but the rythm section of the song reminds me of Izzy's style but this is just pure speculation.
Sp1at sources can be right & Bill ones could also, as they have just proven right before

The writing credits will appear on sesac in due course, so we'll find out. I'm happy to be wrong, it was a long time ago.

My goal back then was what was on CD. Any descriptions of songs always had a source. Jeff Leeds, the chap at the Times, Dave Dominguez etc.. And for all the times I spoke to Brain, I could never get a sensible answer or description. What was Seven, again, it was supposedly great, but no description. Dizzy with his ides of March, a drum loop. And so on

I'll ask my wife tomorrow,.she might remember it better than me.

Do you remember if it had vocals at all?

From what I remember, it was instruments, then less than a second of some vocals, very quick. At the time, I had set up my site and a message board, and I had tiered the message board, and people thought  I was trading, but we were just pooling information and email addresses. I was toing and froing with someone. I received a message at my big boss address. I sent it to the person I was talking to. They confirmed what it was. They told me to delete it and don't mention it because it wasn't worth it. It was an old song that'll not appear on anything, anytime soon. I deleted it and forgot about it.

I just always assumed if someone else had it, it.would appear.

I asked and appreciates your response because someone told me a week ago Nothin' was Down By The Ocean. Obviously the information can be wrong and if you trust your source which seem very reputable i withdraw my Nothin' being Down By The Ocean claim. Obviously you have a better source and i know you're a reputable poster.

A description of the song would be nice.

This is definitely hypocritical coming from me of all people but i have to ask are you sure this person was in a position to verify (cough Merck cough) and did they verify the title ?

The timeline is definitely accurate so no question there.

What about a description.

I remember i had atlas back in the day and when people asked for a description post reunion i described it as November rain meets Scraped. People knew about the November rain description thanks to a rolling stone article but the scrapped description i think was incredibly accurate.

I don't doubt what you're saying i just question if the clip you heard was real or actually Down By The Ocean.

Can you describe to us what you heard ?
Roughly the year it was sent ?
Why you believe it to be real ?

Do you understand where i coming from ?

It was 18-19 years ago. It was validated officially by someone. I just followed advice back then and left it alone

Odd story

When I was doing my website years ago, people thought I was a trader, which I wasn't. I heard 10-15 seconds of that song from someone who thought I had other songs, which I didn't.

I don't remember much, but I think I'd know it if I heard it

We did our website and we annoyed people, but I wasn't wanting to get into trouble back then. A few things came our way like that
